The Clay Soil Challenge
Chapel Hill and Durham's clay-based soils are beautiful but challenging. Compaction is your lawn's #1 enemy—it prevents water and nutrients from reaching the root zone where they're needed most. Water runs off the surface or evaporates before roots can access it. The result? Thin grass, frequent watering needs, and ongoing struggle to maintain a healthy lawn.
The traditional solution? Rip up and replant. Expensive. Disruptive. Unnecessary. We offer a better way.

Frequently Asked Questions
how does aearation help soil improvement?
Aeration alone creates holes but doesn't fill them. Soil improvement combines aeration with organic top dressing to create lasting pathways for water and nutrients. Our multi-pass approach ensures thorough compaction relief, then top dressing seals the benefits by creating a nutrient-rich environment for roots to thrive.
why do you aerate 2-3 times instead of once?
Multiple passes break up clay compaction more effectively. One pass creates holes, but repeated passes ensure thorough relief of compaction throughout the soil. This is especially important in Chapel Hill and Durham's clay-heavy soils. The result is better water penetration and faster lawn recovery.
is this better than a full lawn renovation?
For most properties, yes. Our approach improves soil quality and creates healthy, thriving grass without the cost and disruption of full renovation. You keep your existing grass while improving the soil it grows in. Only severe cases (complete dead zones) might need renovation. We'll honestly assess your lawn and recommend the right approach.
will my lawn be damaged during aeration?
No. Aeration actually helps your lawn. Yes, you'll see small holes temporarily, but they're tiny (½ inch wide) and disappear as your grass recovers. The recovered soil fills holes naturally, and your lawn bounces back within days. The long-term benefit far outweighs any temporary appearance.
what is the best time for soil improvement?
Fall (September-October) and spring (March-April) are ideal when grass is actively growing. Fall treatment gives roots time to establish all winter. Spring treatment prepares your lawn for the growing season. We can discuss timing based on your lawn's specific needs and our local climate patterns.
